COMMUNITY CALENDAR
MAY QUEER OBSERVED DAYS
Compiled by Valerie
All May (USA)
Queer people experience depression, anxiety, and trauma at disproportionate rates, so this one hits close to home. May is a reminder to check in with yourself and the people around you.
All May
A month-long celebration of the contributions and histories of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. AAPI queer voices are so often pushed to the margins (even within queer spaces), so this is a good moment to center and amplify them.
May 3 (1st Sunday In May)
Celebrated annually on the first Sunday of May to honor the diversity of families, with a specific focus on LGBTQ+ parents and children…. highlighting that love makes a family (not obligation <3)
May 17
On this day we (extra) raise awareness of violence, discrimination, and repression of LGBTIA+ communities worldwide…. “The date of May 17 was specifically chosen to commemorate the World Health Organization’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder”
May 18
Every year on May 18, we recognize the volunteers and researchers working toward an HIV vaccine. Progress takes people willing to show up for each other, and that's always worth honoring.
May 19
May 19 is a day to shed light on the HIV epidemic among Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Communities, as testing rates in the community remain significantly lower than other communities.
May 19
On the same day marks Agender Pride Day, “ a joyous celebration of people who may not connect with a gender identity label”

May 22
“Harvey Milk was a pioneering LGBTQ+ activist and politician who made history as the first openly gay elected official in California.” We honor Harvey, who fought for queer rights in a world that only wanted to silence us.
May 24
“Pansexual is defined as having a sexual or romantic attraction not limited by gender, or gender identity, while to be panromantic is the same except without the sexual attraction.” Personally, I would have never known about pansexuality if it were not for conversations that helped me open my mind about my own sexuality <3
May 28
Periods don't only happen to women, and this day recognizes that, advocating for menstrual dignity and access for everyone who needs it. At Quamp, period products are in all shared bathrooms, because it’s just that simple.
